Ski lodge

There is wood burning in a stove in that snug log cabin. Everybody drinks a tee and listens Alex, our leader and coach. He knows a lot of tourist's songs and sings each of them in the exact author's manner and maybe even better.

Sunset in the village

Our route is located pretty close to Arkhangelsk city. This is the only night stop located in the village. Other are small hunter's cabins hidden in the almost uninhabited forest. There are not so many lumber camps and villages are even sparser, than Karelian ones.

Snow-clad forest

It's hard to believe now that I went through this bewitched forest, through this snow kingdom.

Spruce forest

Put into this forest the branching spruces from the middle area, and you'll see there is something wrong with it. Trees should be exactly of this type under this bright sky.

Sunny day and sunny mood

In such a sunny and frosty day it is especially nice to take a rest and listen to some funny story. We do not need to hurry. We have more than enough time for our 100 miles long route. It's more important to have a good long talk and to breathe this crystal clear air.

The fire under snow

The melting snow puts a fire down and down. For a fire to burn well it's necessary to put green coniferous branches underneath. I remember once we forgot it, when were skiing on the Subpolar Urals. As a result, our fire came down into three feet deep pit and didn't want to burn.

It's time to go

It's time to go. We spent a very nice night in this hunter's cabin. What a good exercise to chop and saw wood, breathing clear and cold air! It's a law here to leave as much firewood and food, as it was when you came in.

Lake and shelter

There is our last but one hunter's cabin appearing behind the lake.

Good bye, taiga!

This route is almost done. We'll remember Alex' songs for a long time. Also, I can't forget one event. I was skiing ahead of my partners and all of a sudden I heard a loud clack. Three blackcocks, who were sleeping in the snow, flew up right in front of my skis.
In Arkhangelsk there was an exhibition of Roerich paintings at that time. It came from India and we were happy to visit it.
